High alpine mountain tours in South Tyrol
To Mount Weißkugel
The ascent to Mount Weißkugel is one of the greatest high alpine mountain tours in the Eastern Alps. In the year 1846 the 3739 m high mountain was climbed for the first time by Johann Gurschler and Josef Weittheim from Schnals Valley in South Tyrol.Between the first ascent and today lie more 150 years, but Mt. Weißkugel hasn’t lost anything of his fascination. The glacier became smaller, yes, but seen from the South Tyrolean side, Mt. Weißkugel is the highest mountain in the Ötztal Alps. To do this glacier tour we recommend taking a rope, pickax, climbing irons and ice-screws with you.
The ascent to Mt. Weißkugel
Pay attention at crevasses and hike on the right side with a left-curve to the Hintereisjoch Pass. Arrived there take the corn snow ridge and then the last rocky ridge to the peak (4 hours from refuge).
