High alpine mountain tours in South Tyrol

To Mount Piz Sesvenna

Mount Piz Sesvenna is one of the most famous peaks on the border between Switzerland and South Tyrol. The 3205 m high mountain is reachable either from Taufers or from Schlinig in Vinschgau Valley.

The ascent from Taufers is long but mountaineers don’t have to cross the glacier of Piz Sesvenna. The ascent from Schlinig however is shorter and also more spectacular, because alpinists have to cross a big glacier: the glacier has many crevasses, so we recommend the tour only to experienced mountaineers with the right equipment.

To Mount Piz Sesvenna

Starting point is Schlinig. Take the forest track to the Schlinig mountain pastures and to Sesvenna Refuge at 2258 m above sea level (2 hours from Schlinig). Go on on path 5 and follow the signposts to Piz Sesvenna.

Arrived at the Sesvenna embrasure, stay on path 5 and hike to the glacier, which has to be ascended on the right hand. At the embrasure between Piz Sesvenna and Piz Fortida climb the ridge on the right side until you reach the peak of Mount Piz Sesvenna (3,5 hours from refuge).

Descent

The way back is the same way as to get there.
