To Mt. Magerstein

Mt. Magerstein is one of the most easy to reach glaciers in Tauferer Ahrntal Valley. With 3273 m he is the nethermost glacier of Rieserferner-group. He is reachable over Kasseler Refuge or Rieserferner Refuge.

Here we present you the variant from Rein in Taufers and Kasseler Refuge.

High altitude tour to Mt. Magerstein

The tour starts in Rein in Taufers near Gasthaus Säge. We reach the restaurant by car, driving over the cross-country-ski-center into the valley.

We park near the restaurant and take path 8 in direction of Kasseler Refuge. The path to the refuge is relatively steep, we make a lot of meters in altitude. After 1,5 hours we reach the Kasseler Refuge where we turn into path 4 on which we come into the moiranic caldera. Arrived at a signpost we take the ascent traces to Mt. Magerstein. The markings become fewer but on the corn-snow field of the glacier or on the rocky ridge we come easily to the peak of Magerstein. The view over there is fantastic!
